Jon Highet - MRCVS

Jon qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2006 and spent 2 years working with mainly farm animals in Dorset. Whilst wrestling with the big animals, Jon also developed an interest in small birds and reptiles.

Since starting at Southill Vets in 2008 he has enjoyed pursuing his interests with dogs and cats as well as working with the Somerset farmers.

When not working, Jon enjoys walking his crazy dogs 'Dylan' and 'Maggie' and occasionally rowing.

Helen Jenkins - MRCVS

I've been a vet for 9 years now, and qualified from Liverpool University. I enjoy meeting and treating all small animals, and tackling medical and surgical cases. My previous experience includes 2 years in mixed practice in Staffordshire, then 2 years in small animal hospital in Telford, before joining my husband in Snowdonia - where I grew very fond of treating farm collies!
We moved to Somerset and I joined Southill 2 years ago. I work part-time at the lovely new Gillingham branch. My husband is also a vet and we have 2 small children, an old black moggie and a noisy burmese kitten.
I like cooking, baking, sewing, yoga and walking - when I can find the time!

Fiona Perkins - MRCVS

My name is Fiona Perkins and I am the 'tall blond' vet at Wincanton where I work part-time. I have been here for 11 years.

I am married to a vet and have 4 children which keep me busy! I also have 2 lurcher dogs - 'Spike' and 'Bramble', 2 cats - 3 legged 'Max' and overweight 'George' (not a good advert for a vet's cat) and 3 horses.

My interests are doing up my old farmhouse, gardening, riding, walking and eating - though with my work and family commitments I spend most of my time just rushing around!

Vicky Sands - BVSc MRCVS

I graduated from Bristol in 2010 and this is my first job since I qualified. I love the variety of being a mixed vet, but I particularly enjoy farm work - even in the snow!

When I am not at work I like walking, horse riding and cooking feasts for my friends. I have a horse back home in Wiltshire at my parents, who I ride when I can. I also have a cat called 'Teabag', who was brought into our practice by the Cats Protection League and was too cute to resist!

Jane Temple - MRCVS

I have worked in mixed practices in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, and have worked at Southill Vets Group for 6 years.

I am divorced with a 13 year old son, Lester. Over the years I have collected lots of animals and now own 2 Shetland ponies, 7 dogs, 3 cats and 5 chickens.

I breed whippets - I have had a go at showing but agility is our main interest at the moment. We have 3 whippets training/competing and Lester's sheltie.

Sandra Watson - MRCVS

Graduated from Bristol University 1980, worked for animal charity in London on and off for 14 years, with some time spent in private practice in and around London.

Moved to Somerset in 1995 and started working part-time at Southill Vets in 1997. Deals with companion animals only working part-time.

Rest of time spent running a smallholding, keeping poultry and waterfowl. Shows ducks. Has an interest in illnesses and ailments affecting poultry.

105 miles in the saddle for Richard and Jon!

Veterinary surgeons Richard Gale and Jon Highet have set themselves the challenge of cycling 105 miles around Somerset in one day of the Tour of Wessex on May 28th 2011.

It is hoped that sponsorship will help raise funds for local charities the Somerset and Dorset Animal Rescue and the Mere & Gillingham Branch of the Cats Protection League. Both charities work very hard to help sick and homeless animals return to health and find new homes in the local area.

If you would like to sponsor Richard and Jon you can do this at any of our branch surgeries or online at http://www.sponsorformsonline.co.uk/tourofwessex.asp

Birthday Celebrations at Gillingham!
Our Gillingham Surgery has just reached its third birthday. We have been really pleased with the support we have received from the local community and have had the pleasure of welcoming many new clients to the surgery.
