Our Nursing Staff

Sarah Tryhorn - RVN - Head Nurse

I have been at Southill for nearly 6 years, and within that time I have trained and qualified as a veterinary nurse. It is only within the last 2 years that I have moved to the role of Head Veterinary Nurse. I am currently training to become an assessor of student veterinary nurses at our practice.

My interests outside of work are palaeontology, socialising with my friends, and wasting money on pointless cars!

Lisa Hiscock - RVN

I have been working at Southill since 2005 and qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2008.

I have an interest in animal physiotherapy and spend most of my spare time looking after my animals - Bray (collie cross), Woody (3 legged collie), Marble (cat), Toffee & Smirnoff (rabbits) and my 3 pygmy goats Doris, Frankie & George!

Clare Armstrong - RVN DipCABT

I have been employed by Southill since December 2007 and in that time I have trained and qualified as a veterinary nurse. One of my passions is Canine Behaviour. I have a an Advanced Diploma in Practical Aspects of Companion Animal Behaviour and Training. Subsequently I conduct Canine Behaviour Clinics within the practice.

Animals are a major part of life my day to day life. I have a few pets such as a crazy spaniel, a three legged cat , two cats I hand reared, a tortoise and a horse. In my spare time I enjoy going horse riding, walking, socialising with friends and baking.

Sam Steel - VNA

Before joining Southill I worked in a small animal practice in the centre of Cheltenham, as a veterinary nursing assistant for 2 years. I then joined Southill in September 2006, fulfilling this same role at both our Milborne Port and Gillingham branches.
I live in a small stone cottage, surrounded by countryside, which I share with my two adorable siamese cats - Mishka who I've had since a kitten, and Sookyi who I rescued as an adult nearly two years ago.
In my spare time I enjoy countryside and coastal walking, and I would love to either have a puppy or an adult saluki in the future.

Gemma Ockendan - RVN A1

Before joining Southill Vets in Wincanton, I trained in a local Veterinary Practice for 3.5 years as a student Veterinary Nurse and qualified shortly after starting a full time position at Southill in 2003. Since then I have qualified as an assessor for student Veterinary Nurses and also gained a certificate in Pharmacy Management.
On a personal level I am married and have 2 young girls and as a result I am now working part time at our Gillingham branch. At home I currently have a German Shepherd Dog called Troy and a fat ginger cat called Charlie. I enjoy most sports and go to aerobics classes as oftne as I can because I also enjoy food!

105 miles in the saddle for Richard and Jon!

Veterinary surgeons Richard Gale and Jon Highet have set themselves the challenge of cycling 105 miles around Somerset in one day of the Tour of Wessex on May 28th 2011.

It is hoped that sponsorship will help raise funds for local charities the Somerset and Dorset Animal Rescue and the Mere & Gillingham Branch of the Cats Protection League. Both charities work very hard to help sick and homeless animals return to health and find new homes in the local area.

If you would like to sponsor Richard and Jon you can do this at any of our branch surgeries or online at http://www.sponsorformsonline.co.uk/tourofwessex.asp

Birthday Celebrations at Gillingham!
Our Gillingham Surgery has just reached its third birthday. We have been really pleased with the support we have received from the local community and have had the pleasure of welcoming many new clients to the surgery.
